Schools
The Carmel Valley Community is served by 11 elementary school, operated by two school districts, Del Mar Union and the Solana Beach School District. Resident students are served by the San Dieguito Union High School district for middle and high school. There are also several prestigious private school options available and located within the community.
Elementary School
Residents of the Southern portion of Carmel Valley are served by the Del Mar Union School District. Residents in the Norther section of Carmel Valley are served by the Solana Beach School District.
Middle School and High School
San Dieguito Union High School District serves student residents of Carmel Valley with Carmel Valley Middle School and Torrey Pines High School.
Carmel Valley Private Schools
Students of Carmel Valley have access to great private schools within the community. Home to Cathedral Catholic High School, Del Mar Pines School, and the San Diego Jewish Academy.
Carmel Valley History
Formed by the City of San Diego in 1975 it is one of the newer communities of the city. Development began in 1983 making ‘North City West’ as it was originally named in the master plan, San Diego’s first major master planned community. Prior to the development of Carmel Valley the land was primarily open space or local farms. In the early 1990’s as the development matured the community became known as Carmel Valley.
Torrey Pines High School
This three-time National Blue Ribbon and California Distinguished School has been ranked as one of the top 100 Best High Schools in the nation. The school is strong academically, athletically, and offers plenty of programs and clubs to offer students a world class high school education and experience.
Del Mar Highlands Town Center
The Town Center has truly been that since the community began growing in the 1990’s. This open air mall offers residents convenient access to over 70 boutiques, shops, restaurants, the local high quality grocer Jimbos, and a Cinepolis Move Theater. A great place for families and friends to gather.

The Rec Center
