Rancho Santa Fe Schools

The Rancho Santa Fe community is served by the Rancho Santa Fe School District and the R. Roger Rowe School as well as the San Dieguito Untion High School District.

 

The R. Roger Rowe School

The R. Roger Rowe School serves the Rancho Santa Fe community. The school was completely rebuilt in 2010 and offers students a top notch experience. The school consistently earns one of the top scores in California on the Academic Performance Index. Outstanding private schools are also located in the community offering students options.

San Diegiuto Union High School District

For students living in Rancho Santa Fe, the public high school is Torrey Pines. Students are also eligible to attend one of two schools of choice in the district. They can also choose from Canyon Crest Academy in Carmel Valley or San Dieguito Academy in Encinitas.

Rancho Santa Fe History

 

Rancho San Dieguito, as it was originally known, was a Mexican land grant of 8,824 acres in 1841. In 1922 the Santa Fe Railway formed the Santa Fe Land Improvement Company to develop a planned community of estates during that same year the land grant was renamed “Rancho Santa Fe”. Later, between 1921 and 1927 the communities master plan was developed. Fast forward to 1989 when “The Covenant” of Rancho Santa Fe was registered as a California Historical Landmark for its status as a historic planned community.

Lilian Rice

Requa and Jackson, a San Diego architecture firm chose Lilian Rice to lead the development of Rancho Santa Fe. From 1922 to 1927 she lead the efforts to design and construct the village center, as well as several homes with historical designations.

The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe

In 1923 “La Morada” was constructed as a guest house by the Santa Fe Land Company to house prospective land purchasers. In 1958 ‘The Inn’ was purchased by a hotelier named Stephen W. Royce. His leadership, and standards of excellence grew the hotels reputation which was recently sold in 2012.

Rancho Santa Fe Lifestyle

 

Chino Farms

With a history dating back to the early 1920’s the 56 acre farm was originally started by Junzo Chino. The farm is still run by the Chino family and is famous for its sweet corn, strawberries, and tomatoes. Alice Waters of Chez Panisse was the first celebrity chef to source vegetables from the farm, landing it on the worldwide culinary map.

The Village

Lilian Rice, lead the development of the village designing and supervising the construction process between 1922 and 1927. The history of the village is instantly recognizable to those lucky enough to spend time in Rancho Santa Fe. Home to restaurants, The Inn, and professional services firms it is the city center of The Ranch.

Rancho Santa Fe Golf Course

Perhaps the centerpiece of Rancho Santa Fe. Golf membership is available only to members of the Rancho Santa Fe Association. The course was designed by Max Behr and opened for play in 1929. The bends, slopes, and curves weave seamlessly throughout the natural landscape.
