Del Mar Schools

The Del Mar community is served by two school districts. The Del Mar Union School District offers students a K-6 education. The San Dieguito Union High School District services students middle school and high school educations.

 

Del Mar Union School District

DMUSD is comprised of 9 schools. Residents of Del Mar go to Del Mar Heights School and Del Mar Hills Academy.

San Dieguito Union High School District

SDUHSD Serves student residents of Del Mar with Earl Warren Middle School and Torrey Pines High School.

Del Mar Fun Facts

 

The City of Del Mar is a beach city incorporated in July of 1959. Del Mar is one of only two locations where the endangered Torrey Pine tree naturally exists. The population in 2018 was estimated at 4,347. Del Mar features the Los Penasquitos Lagoon to the South which runs into Torrey Pines State Beach. On the North end of the city is Rancho Del Mar and Rural Del Mar offering unique lot sizes and views of the Ranch and Coast.

The Del Mar Racetrack

Live racing takes place between July and September each summer with runs also taking place in November during the Bing Crosby season. The track is exactly one mile long and located right on the ocean! The Del Mar Racetrack is truly “Cool as Ever.”

Torrey Pines State Beach

At the base of 300 foot tall sandstone cliffs home to the Torrey Pines State Reserve is perhaps the most iconic San Diego beach. To the East and flowing under the HWY 101 bridge is a salt marsh estuary and coastal stream home to many of our coastal birds.

Powerhouse Park

Powerhouse Park and Seagrove Park are community staples. The Powerhouse was originally built to provide power to the hotel. It was converted to a restaurant in 1955, and in 1965 was purchased and converted into a desalination facility. In 1983 the City of Del Mar acquired the building and the adjacent park. After a 17 year effort, the result is a truly special beach side experience.

Del Mar Plaza

On the corner of 15th street & Camino Del Mar is the iconic Del Mar Plaza. Enjoy live music, drinks at Enoteca Del Fornio, and dinner at any one of the fine dining options available. Offering some of the best dining in San Diego it will be difficult to grow tired of your options. While you are there shop any of the boutiques or schedule some self care time at one of the salons.
